My Window Guys strives to serve our customers in Sarasota County with the very best methods and expertise.

One of the challenging parts of home maintenance, gutters are best viewed as a complete system. If one part of the system is clogged, it can impact the function of the whole system. Clogged gutters can wreck the gutters themselves by creating excess weight inside of them from the leaves and debris. This weight can, over time, make the gutter seams start to come apart, creating more leaks and damage requiring replacement or service by a professional. Backed-up debris inside gutters prevents proper water flow along the gutter. Without proper maintenance to keep this water flow going, many problems can begin on the home's exterior.

Another challenge is the height of gutter systems.  It can be very dangerous to get at gutters with a ladder when they are on the second floor. Homeowners are risking a lot to get out there and clean their gutters. Using a ladder and physically removing debris is time-consuming and may not produce the best results, even after all that effort.

Additionally, in Sarasota County of Southwest Florida, many homes have screened-in patios. These screened-in patios have gutter systems designed to run along the back of the house, collecting leaves and debris. The convergent point is where the roof and the screen cage come together. It is also where debris pile up and the gutters get clogged easily.

The biggest problem with these pool and patio gutter systems is gaining access to them. A technician cannot put a ladder up and clean the gutter inside the pool patio cage. So, most homeowners or service technicians have no choice but to get a ladder and walk on the roof to remove the debris from the gutters manually.

There are several problems with this approach. The first is the risk of falling, which is a serious risk because the roof is at a pitched angle, and so is the pool patio cage. They converge together. If you are on your hands and knees, your body is off-center, and there are very few places to stabilize your weight.

The second is damaging the roof itself. Concrete barrel tile and flat concrete tile roof systems crack easily under the weight of people walking on them. Breaking a tile underfoot may permeate the underlying roof membrane designed to prevent water from entering the attic. This may be the biggest cause of ceiling water damage outside of a hurricane.

Somebody goes on the roof, breaks a tile, the tile perforates the membranes, water flows in, and the ceiling gets damaged, potentially costing thousands of dollars.

The third problem with gutter cleaning is hiring technicians or individuals that do not carry the proper insurance and licensing.

The moment an individual steps on a ladder and sets foot on a roof, that person must have roofer’s insurance. Roofing insurance is significantly higher in cost than power washing or gutter cleaning liability insurance. Hiring a contractor who does not have roofing insurance puts the homeowner at risk in a bad event, either from damage or injury.

How to fix this? Use a gutter vacuum!
